“Iyalode” debuts with one of the highest opening weekends for a Yoruba-language epic.
“Iyalode” and “Ballerina” Lead Eid Holidays Box Office Numbers
The four-day Muslim Eid holidays in Nigeria are over, and when the dust settled, it was “Iyalode” and “Ballerina” that were the movies of choice for most Nigerian audiences.
“Iyalode,” Toyin Abraham’s Yoruba-language epic, led the weekend charts with a ₦103.7 million debut.
It’s a high number compared to recent epics: “Beasts of Two Worlds” launched with ₦63 million over 2024’s Easter weekend, Odunlade Adekola’s “Lakatabu” opened with ₦47 million, and Biodun Stephen’s “Labake Olododo” saw ₦50 million — although all were on a pure three-day opening weekend.
Lionsgate’s “Ballerina,” the fifth installment in the John Wick franchise, settled for second place with ₦58.5 million.
The R-rated spinoff starring Ana de Armas debuted with $25 million in its opening weekend in North America and $26 million across 81 overseas markets, for a $51 million global launch.

In its third weekend, Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible — Fallout” still managed to squeeze out ₦46 million and a third-place finish. With a current cume of ₦270 million, the film is already the highest-grossing “Mission: Impossible” outing in West Africa.
