Muyiwa Ademola’s “Ori: Rebirth” has pulled off a major upset at the Nigerian Box Office, dethroning the widely successful “Sinners” for the first time.
Released on May 2, “Ori: Rebirth” raked in ₦39.3 million on Sunday, May 4 alone , the highest single-day gross for a new release in 2025 so far. This pushed “Sinners”, which earned ₦33.7 million on the same day, out of the top daily spot.
The film’s standout performance contributed to it being declared the No. 1 title of the weekend, the strongest May opening of all time, and the largest single-day gross by a new release this year.
While “Sinners” still held on to the overall top position for the weekend, “Ori: Rebirth” followed closely behind. In its debut weekend, the film grossed a total of ₦97.8 million, an impressive feat for an opening run.
In comparison, “Sinners” remains dominant with ₦445.9 million in cumulative earnings after three weeks in cinemas.
“Ori: Rebirth” also outperformed other Nollywood titles currently in their third week, including “Makemation” and “Aso Ebi Diaries”, which have grossed ₦70 million and ₦62.1 million respectively.
Below are the top six box office titles for the weekend of May 2–4, as reported by The Nigerian Box Office:
