Nollywood’s latest Yoruba-language epic, “Ori: Rebirth,” has set a new box office record, raking in ₦19.3 million in advance screening revenue just a day after its theatrical debut.
Directed by Adekola Tijani, Muyiwa Ademola, and Tope Adebayo Salami, the film was released nationwide on May 2, 2025, alongside Marvel Studios’ “Thunderbolts*.”
According to data from the Nigerian Box Office on May 3, “Ori: Rebirth” now holds the title for the biggest advance preview gross ever for a Nollywood film, surpassing “Thunderbolts,” which recorded ₦11.2 million.
“‘Ori: Rebirth’ storms to the biggest advance preview for a Nollywood film ever, pulling in ₦19.3M, smashing Thunderbolt’s ₦11.2M, despite no Premium Large Format (PLF) support and screening in eight fewer cinemas. The next three days could get very interesting,” the official statement read.
The milestone has drawn praise from fans and industry observers, many of whom see the success as a reflection of Muyiwa Ademola’s appeal and storytelling prowess.
All eyes are now on the film’s weekend performance, with expectations high for a strong box office run.
