After seven strong weeks, Muyiwa Ademola’s epic sees a box office drop but remains among the highest earners of the year.
“Ori: The Rebirth” Slows Down But Crosses ₦400M Milestone
After an impressive seven-week run at the Nigerian box office, “Ori: The Rebirth” is beginning to show signs of decline.
The film grossed ₦6.6 million over the weekend of June 20–22—down 52% from the previous weekend’s ₦13.9 million.
Midweek figures tell a similar story. The film made ₦4.5 million between Monday and Thursday, a steep drop from ₦13.04 million the previous week, according to data from the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN).
The slowdown is not unexpected. With nearly two months in cinemas, “Ori: The Rebirth” appears to have reached a saturation point, where most interested viewers have already seen it.
Still, its performance remains strong when compared to other titles. It earned nearly four times more than “My Mother Is A Witch” (₦1.8 million), despite the latter being a much newer release.
More notably, the film has now crossed the ₦400 million mark—becoming only the second Nigerian title to do so in 2025, after “Captain America: Brave New World.”
Here are the top six grossing films at the Nigerian box office for the weekend of June 20–22, according to the Nigerian Box Office on X:
- Iyalode — ₦31.1M (Week 3)
- Ballerina — ₦29.4M (Week 3)
- Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning — ₦15.3M (Week 5)
- 28 Years Later — ₦13.3M (New)
- Red Circle — ₦13M (Week 3)
- Sitaare Zameen Par — ₦8.4M (New)
