The final film in the Conjuring series posts the franchise’s biggest opening and one of horror’s top global launches.
“The Conjuring: Last Rites” Hits $187M Global Debut
The Conjuring: Last Rites, the ninth and final film in the long-running horror franchise, shattered projections to deliver the series’ biggest opening and one of the strongest debuts ever for a horror release.
The film grossed $83 million in North America, including $8 million from Thursday previews, well above analyst estimates of $50–70 million, according to Deadline. It surpassed The Nun ($53.8 million) as the top domestic opener in the Conjuring universe and outperformed Final Destination: Bloodlines ($51.6 million) to become the largest 2025 debut for a horror or R-rated title.
Its domestic total ranks just outside the top 10 horror openings of all time, trailing The Passion of the Christ by less than $1 million.
Internationally, Last Rites added $104 million from 66 markets — the highest-ever overseas launch for a horror film, ahead of It: Chapter Two ($93.9 million) and It ($66 million). Combined, the worldwide debut reached $187 million, second only to It (2017) with $190 million, according to box office analyst Luiz Fernando.
Premium formats played a major role, with IMAX screenings contributing $14.3 million, setting a September record for the large-format exhibitor.
Directed by Michael Chaves, the film stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprising their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren, confronting a new demonic threat.
With this result, the Conjuring universe extends its standing as the most lucrative horror franchise in history, closing out its final chapter on a record-setting note.
