Blue Pictures’ The Creek opened at No. 1, dethroning Dhurandar: The Revenge in a week marked by a close race at the box office. The film’s ₦28.6 million haul placed it just ₦8 million ahead of fourth-place Evi, highlighting how competitive the weekend was.

Hot on its heels, They Will Kill You, directed by Kirill Sokolov and Alex Litvak, earned ₦21.5 million in its opening week, securing the No. 3 spot. While it trailed The Creek by ₦7.1 million, its performance demonstrates strong local interest, even as the film’s global reception has been modest, with roughly $12 million combined from domestic and international markets.

The box office figures reflect a week dominated by new releases, each bringing a distinct flavour. The Creek follows a man returning to Nigeria after 25 years abroad, only to find his homecoming disrupted when he is kidnapped along the Niger Delta creek. Starring Bucci Franklin, Sam Dede, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Kelechi Udegbe, and Charles Inojie, and directed by Toka McBaror, the film has resonated with audiences drawn to its suspenseful storytelling and rich local setting.

Meanwhile, They Will Kill You blends action, horror, and dark humour. Distributed by Blue Fox Entertainment, it centres on a group of ordinary individuals entangled in a violent conspiracy orchestrated by a shadowy organisation. Its mix of tension and comedy, combined with high-stakes thrills, has captured audience attention despite its limited global reach.

The rest of the weekly chart highlights how tightly contested the box office was:

  1. The Creek — ₦28.6M (Week 1)
  2. Project Hail Mary — ₦23.5M (Week 2)
  3. They Will Kill You — ₦21.5M (Week 1)
  4. Ready or Not 2 — ₦20.7M (Week 2)
  5. Evi — ₦15.8M (Week 1)
  6. Love and New Notes — ₦14.4M (Week 7)

This week’s box office demonstrates a strong appetite for both local and international content. With The Creek leading and They Will Kill You performing solidly in its debut, Nigerian audiences continue to drive robust ticket sales, signalling a vibrant cinema culture that rewards both homegrown stories and genre experiments.
