Kayode Kasum’s new film trails behind the debut numbers of his earlier projects.
“The Serpent’s Gift” Grosses ₦26 Million in Debut Week
Kayode Kasum’s The Serpent’s Gift, distributed by Nile Entertainment, earned ₦26 million in its first week in Nigerian cinemas, marking a quieter opening compared to the director’s previous box office outings.
The film earned ₦16.7 million in its opening week, ending the full week (by Thursday, September 4) with ₦26 Million and third place on the weekly box office charts, according to the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN).
A ₦16 million three-day start is considered respectable for any Nigerian film, but compared with Kayode Kasum’s previous four flicks, it marks a slower launch.

For context, his Valentine’s Day hit, Reel Love, made nearly ₦100 million in its first weekend. What About Us debuted with ₦23 million, All’s Fair in Love with ₦17.3 million, and Ajosepo reached ₦32 million in its opening frame.
Released on August 29, The Serpent’s Gift is a gripping drama inspired by true events. It follows a young widow who, after her husband’s death, must confront her in-laws’ ruthless efforts to seize his estate.
The film stars Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Chico Aligwekwe, Stan Nze, Tina Mba, Daniel Etim Effiong, Beverly Osu, Ric Hassani, Uche Chika Elumelu, and Inem King.
