Zootopia 2 has crossed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office just 17 days after its release.
The sequel is now the second-fastest animated film ever to reach $1 billion, trailing only China’s Ne Zha 2, which achieved the feat in 12 days. It is also Hollywood’s fastest, surpassing Inside Out 2’s 19-day record.
On home turf (North America), Zootopia 2 grossed $26.3 million in its third weekend, which is a solid 38.5% drop from last weekend’s $42.8 million.
Overseas, Zootopia 2 earned $131 million across 53 markets, $55 million of which came from China alone. In the latter region, this haul was enough to push it to $500 million, according to industry analyst Luiz Fernando. For reference, only Avengers: Endgame’s $632 million stands higher in China.
As of this writing, Zootopia 2 has amassed $1.13 billion globally; $259 million domestically and $877 million internationally, 20 days after its release. The total has already ousted Moana 2 ($1.06 billion) as the second-highest-grossing film of the year and Toy Story 4 ($1.07 billion) as eighth-highest-grossing animated film of all time.
Analysts predict the film to gross between $1.5 and $1.7 billion.
