In “Silas Wan Japa”, Sabinus stars as a lovable but reckless hustler chasing the Nigerian dream of escape by any means necessary.
The comedy film is set for release on May 9, 2025, bringing chaos, laughter, and a dose of reality to the big screen.
Directed by Darasen Richards and produced by Albert Esu and Taiwo Adebayo, the film follows Silas as he gets entangled in an illegal travel scheme with his love interest, Baby Sempe. But there’s a catch: he needs to raise a huge sum of money first, and fast. What follows is a hilariously messy quest filled with debt, deception, and a few dangerous enemies on his trail.
The film stars popular comedian Mr Funny, also known as Sabinus, alongside Nedu Wazobia, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, Deyemi Okanlawon, Mercy Eke, Akin Lewis, and others.
With this ensemble, “Silas Wan Japa” promises a blend of slapstick comedy and social commentary, spotlighting the desperation behind the japa wave in Nigeria.
“Silas Wan Japa” is distributed by Blue Pictures Film Distribution Company and taps into a familiar sentiment among many young Nigerians: the desire to leave for greener pastures, no matter the cost.
