It’s a Wicked world, and we’re all part of it!
Few upcoming films have generated as much excitement as Wicked, the musical fantasy adaptation of the globally adored Broadway production. Ever since its production was announced in 2022, fans have been buzzing in anticipation.
Set in the magical universe of ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘Wicked’ reimagines the tale through the eyes of Elphaba, an outcast destined to become the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. The story explores their unexpected friendship and the events that lead them from allies to adversaries, all while navigating life in a school for magical creatures.
Starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, the film boasts a stellar supporting cast including Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, Keala Settle, and Peter Dinklage.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, known for his work on ‘Crazy Rich Asians’, ‘Wicked’ is set to captivate both fans of the original musical and new audiences alike. Academy Award-winning lyricist Stephen Schwartz, who wrote the songs for the 1993 Broadway version, returns to pen the film’s music, while John Powell handles the score.
‘Wicked’ will debut globally on November 22, 2024, as the first installment of a two-part adaptation. The second film, ‘Wicked: Part Two’, is slated for release on November 26, 2025. Both films will be distributed by Universal Pictures.
