“Aso Ebi Diaries”, a new film from director Biodun Stephen, will open in cinemas across Nigeria on April 18, 2025.

The film takes a humorous yet thoughtful look at the drama that often unfolds around Nigerian celebrations, where tradition, social expectations, and personal issues tend to clash.

Set in contemporary Lagos, “Aso Ebi Diaries” captures the emotional rollercoaster of family ties, friendships, and personal betrayals, all playing out within the colourful and often chaotic backdrop of parties and cultural events. The film explores how these gatheringsmeant to celebrate unitycan sometimes expose deeper divisions.

The cast features well-known actors including Shaffy Bello, Daniel Etim Effiong, Nancy Isime, Kunle Remi, Bukky Wright, Chizzy Alichi, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori (Kie Kie), Daniel Lloyd, Kalu Ikeagwu, and Fadekemi Olumide-Aluko.

Costume designers Yolanda Okereke and Janet Aiyegbusi contribute to the film’s strong visual presence, highlighting the individuality and cultural pride expressed through the Nigerian Aso Ebi tradition.

Produced by Laide Daramola and Taiwo Adebayo, and written by Frances Okeke, “Aso Ebi Diaries” blends humour and social commentary, offering a familiar but layered look at the dynamics of communal life in Nigeria.
