“Deafening Silence,” a drama that addresses gender-based violence in Nigeria, is set to premiere in cinemas on June 7, 2024. The film aims to spark meaningful conversations and awareness.
Directed by Biodun Stephen and produced by Emem Isong Misodi, this film brings together a remarkable cast, including Chidi Mokeme, Kate Henshaw, Bimbo Akintola, Toni Tones, Daniel Etim-Effiong, Femi Jacobs, Derby Felix, and Ekamma Etim-Inyang.
The film concluded principal photography last year and explores the harsh realities and consequences of gender-based violence within a typical Nigerian community.
Through its narrative, “Deafening Silence” aims to keep audiences on edge while raising awareness about a critical societal issue.
“Deafening Silence” is backed by the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the Foundation for Resilient Empowerment and Development. These organizations have collaborated to bring this important story to the big screen, highlighting the urgent need for societal change.
Charles Ebuebu, Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, has emphasized the commission’s dedication to using media to fight gender-based violence. He highlighted the significant role of broadcast media in shaping public perception and policy, reinforcing the message that tackling this issue is crucial.
