“I Know What You Did Last Summer” Returns With New Cast and Familiar Faces

More than two decades after the hook-wielding killer last terrorized Southport, “I Know What You Did Last Summer” returns to theaters on July 18, 2025, with a fresh cast, familiar survivors, and a new wave of secrets.

The film serves as the fourth installment in the cult horror franchise and a direct sequel to 1998’s “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.” It follows five friends who cover up a murder, only to find themselves hunted a year later by the same killer who haunted the town decades ago. With nowhere to turn, they seek help from the original survivors of the 1997 Southport Massacre.

Directed and co-written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, alongside Sam Lansky, the new chapter stars Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, Austin Nichols, Lola Tung, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez.

Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise their iconic roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson, returning to guide the new generation through the killer’s deadly game.

The sequel was greenlit following Robinson’s 2022 pitch to Sony Pictures, after the cancellation of the 2021 reboot series. Production began in 2023 with Neal H. Moritz, a longtime producer of the franchise, returning to oversee the project.

Loosely based on the novel by Lois Duncan, the film revives the franchise with a mix of horror nostalgia and modern storytelling.
