The holidays are usually filled with Christmas films and holiday cheer, but thanks to DC Studios, a new superhero film is coming to the big screen, and it has been a long time coming. “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”, the sequel to 2018 “Aquaman” will premiere worldwide on Dec. 22.
In this superhero film, Arthur Curry, popularly known as Aquaman, doubles as both a normal family man living a suburban life and the king of the underwater Kingdom of Atlantis. Everything seems to be going on smoothly until an ancient evil is released by DC’s newest villain – Black Manta. In order to save his family and his people from complete annihilation, he teams up with an unexpected ally, his half-brother: Orm.
Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, and Nicole Kidman will reprise their roles as Aquaman, Mera, Orm, and Atlanna, respectively. Newcomer, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will play the villain Black Manta.
A lot of controversy has marinated the production of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” because of the media fanfare surrounding Heard and Johnny Depp’s legal troubles. As a result, Heard’s scenes have been cut considerably from the film, and Momoa was alleged to have behaved unprofessionally on set. However, the film is finally set to premiere.
Speaking on what fans are to expect, Director, James Wan says that they “really do see the growth of Arthur…he finally has more of a direction of what he wants to do with his life….”
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” hits theaters Dec. 22.
