The story is set in a future society where perfection is mandated, and sixteen-year-olds are required to undergo plastic surgery to be considered “Pretty.” Those who resist this transformation are labeled as outlaws and flee to a hidden refuge known as Smoke.
The film follows Tally Youngblood, played by Emmy-nominated actress Joey King, as she transitions from a “Pretty” to a rebel against the oppressive regime. Alongside her friends, Tally uncovers the government’s sinister plan to control and dehumanize society through enforced beauty standards. The cast also includes Chase Stokes, Keith Powers, Brianne Tju, and Emmy winner Laverne Cox.
Directed by McG, known for the “Charlie’s Angels” franchise, “Uglies” explores themes of individuality, rebellion, and the dangers of a society obsessed with perfection.
Westerfeld, McG, John Davis, and Jordan Davis serve as executive producers, ensuring the adaptation stays true to the novel’s gripping narrative.
