Love & New Notes, one of Nollywood’s most anticipated early 2026 releases, will arrive in cinemas nationwide on Feb. 13, ahead of Valentine’s Day. The film is directed by Kayode Kasum and produced by actor Timini Egbuson.
Set during Nigeria’s 1984 currency change, the romantic drama follows characters navigating love, ambition and uncertainty amid a period of national transition.
The story uses the economic upheaval as a backdrop for personal reinvention, as individuals scramble to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances.
Egbuson leads the cast as a charismatic figure balancing emotional commitments with personal aspirations.
He is joined by Sophie Alakija, Odunlade Adekola and Eniola Badmus, whose roles intersect as the characters respond differently to the pressures of the time.
The project marks another collaboration between Kasum and Egbuson following their 2025 release Reel Love.
While the director is known for blending lighthearted moments with emotional tension, Love & New Notes leans more heavily on historical context, with scenes centered on the urgency surrounding the exchange of old currency notes.
According to the production team, historical consultants were engaged to ensure accuracy in depicting the era, including the use of replica banknotes and period-appropriate settings. Early promotional materials emphasize character dynamics rather than spectacle.
Scheduled for a Valentine’s weekend release, Love & New Notes joins a growing slate of Nollywood films positioned as seasonal theatrical events, continuing the industry’s focus on timed releases aimed at maximizing cinema attendance.
