“Makemation”, a new film directed by Michael “Ama Psalmist” Akinrogunde, is set to premiere in cinemas across Nigeria on April 18, 2025.
The feature-length drama follows the journey of a young girl from rural Lagos who must navigate hardship, societal expectations, and personal loss in her pursuit of a better life.
Produced by Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji for Rise Interactive Studios, “Makemation” presents a layered portrait of a girl whose intelligence and curiosity push her to challenge the status quo. Despite financial limitations and personal setbacks, she finds strength through resilience and begins to use innovation as a way out of poverty.
With a focus on education, technology, and community, the film brings attention to the many roadblocks young girls in underserved areas face and the power they can unlock when given the chance.
The cast includes Tomi Ojo in the lead role, supported by veteran actors Richard Mofe-Damijo, Ibrahim Chatta, Shaffy Bello, Chioma Chukwuka, Ali Nuhu, and Yvonne Jegede.
It is a film that merges family themes with larger questions around development and self-determination, framed through the lens of a child growing up in a changing world.
“Makemation” is one of several new Nigerian titles arriving in cinemas this April.
