Netflix is set to release “Lisabi,” a two-part Yoruba epic drama, continuing the streaming platform’s investment in Nigerian historical content.
“Lisabi: The Uprising” will debut on September 27, 2024, followed by “Lisabi: A Legend is Born” in January 2025.
Set in 18th century Egbaland, the films chronicle the life of Lisabi, a hero who led the Egba people’s fight for independence against the oppressive Alaafin of Oyo.
The cast features prominent Nollywood actors including Femi Adebayo, Lateef Adedimeji, and Odunlade Adekola.
Niyi Akinmolayan, founder of Anthill Studios, directs both films and co-wrote the screenplay with Yinka Olaoye.
“Lisabi” follows the success of recent Nigerian historical dramas on Netflix, such as “Anikulapo,” “Jagun Jagun,” and “House of Ga’a.”
This latest addition to Netflix’s Nigerian content lineup reflects the growing global interest in Yoruba historical narratives and Nollywood productions.
The two-part release strategy may indicate Netflix’s confidence in the project and its potential to engage audiences over an extended period.
