Veteran actor and filmmaker Saidi Balogun is set to return to the big screen with “Ewo – Forbidden,” a Yoruba-language thriller exploring the tension between personal choice and cultural expectations. The film opens in Nigerian cinemas on July 18, 2025.

Directed by Ekene Som Mekwunye, the project is produced by Bukana Motion Pictures and Riverside Productions, with Balogun co-producing alongside Mekwunye and Fulfillment ‘Fuchi’ Nwaturuocha.

“Ewo – Forbidden” follows Kunle (Ademola Adedoyin), whose appointment to a long-coveted position in the quiet town of Ogbojo is met with resistance from traditional chiefs. But the real trouble begins when his relationship with Adunni (Bimbo Ademoye) triggers a deeper clash with the town’s customs and beliefs.

The cast also includes Jaiye Kuti, Tina Mba, Saidi Balogun, Moyo Lawal, Taiwo Hassan, and Dele Odule.

With themes of power, tradition, and sacrifice, the film explores how far a community will go to protect its way of life—and what happens when someone dares to question it.

“Ewo – Forbidden” is distributed by Nile Entertainment and will open in cinemas nationwide from July 18.
