South African Crime Drama “Bad Influencer” Premieres October 31 on Netflix
Netflix has announced the premiere date for its upcoming South African original crime drama Bad Influencer, set to debut globally on October 31, 2025.
Created by Kudi Maradzika and produced by Gambit Films, the seven-part series marks the first project developed through Netflix’s partnership with the Realness Institute’s Episodic Lab—an initiative dedicated to nurturing African storytellers.
Bad Influencer stars Jo-Anne Reyneke and Cindy Mahlangu in a fast-paced narrative that fuses glamour, crime, comedy, and sharp social commentary. It follows BK, a quick-witted single mother and small-time con artist trying to care for her son with special needs. She partners with Pinky, a fame-obsessed influencer chasing luxury and validation, to sell counterfeit designer handbags online. Their get-rich scheme soon spirals out of control when it draws the attention of Bra Alex and Jobs “Flames” Jiyane, two powerful figures in Johannesburg’s criminal underworld. As law enforcement closes in, the pair must navigate a dangerous world of deception, loyalty, and survival.
Directed by Keitumetse Qhali and Ari Kruger, and written by Maradzika, Daniel Zimbler, and Sydney Dire, the series features a strong ensemble cast including Thapelo Mokoena, Mpilo Shabalala, Modise Motaung, Kamo Pule, Emmanuel Castis, Julia Anastasopoulos, Brendon Daniels, Aubrey Poo, Nat Ramabulana, Lerato Nxumalo, Charlie Bouguenon, and former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi in her first major acting role.
Real-life influencers Mihlali Ndamase, Sarah Langa, and Mohale Motaung make cameo appearances, adding a meta layer to the show’s satirical look at digital fame and influencer culture.
