Josh O’Connor Stars As Art Thief in Kelly Reichardt’s “The Mastermind”
British Actor Josh O’Connor known for Mothering Sunday and Wake Me Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will star in Kelly Reichardt’s 2025 film The Mastermind as the world’s worst art thief.
The heist film written and directed by Reichardt will premiere in cinemas on October 17.
Starring Sterling Thompson, Alana Haim, Jasper Thompson and Cole Doman, The Mastermind follows James Mooney (O’Connor), an unemployed carpenter turned amateur art thief and his first big heist.

He alongside his cohorts wander into a museum in broad daylight to steal four paintings. However, when holding onto the art proves more difficult than stealing them, Mooney is relegated to a life on the run.
Set in Massachusetts in the 1970s, the crime drama, nominated for Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, follows Reichardt’s previous directed projects First Cow and Certain Women.
