December is always competitive at the Nigerian box office, as filmmakers tend to save their biggest releases for the final month of the year. One such film is This Is Not a Nollywood Movie, set for a nationwide theatrical release on December 5, 2025.
Described as a tongue-in-cheek comedy, the film follows a struggling filmmaker who mysteriously disappears on the first day of filming. As the cast and crew scramble to find him, they begin to realize he may be entangled in deeper criminal trouble than any of them imagined.
The film features an ensemble cast from Nigeria and Ghana, blending Nollywood veterans and newer talents: Hanks Anuku, Julius Agwu, Shatta Bundle, Bimbo Akintola, Boma Akpore, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Chidi Mokeme, Bayo Valentino, Gregory Ojefua, Ifeoma Okeke, Olumide Oworu, Broda Shaggi, Babson Stanley, Michael Sunny, and Wale Ojo.
Anuku, Nollywood’s beloved on-screen villain, continues his return to the industry after stepping away. He appeared in The Breakpoint earlier this year and is now closing the year with This Is Not a Nollywood Movie.
AMVCA winner Ojo steps behind the camera to direct the film, which he also wrote and executive produced. Akpore, known for his appearance on Big Brother Naija, serves as producer, with Femi Dapson and Esse Odometa as associate producers.
This Is Not a Nollywood Movie marks Ojo’s second directorial effort following 2019’s Don’t Get Mad Get Even, which starred Femi Jacobs and Patience Ozokwor.
The film is scheduled for a nationwide release first, with plans for international rollouts in the UK, Canada, and the USA, as well as releases in Ghana and South Africa.
This Is Not a Nollywood Movie is distributed by FilmOne Entertainment.
