Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has partnered with Prime Video to release her debut film “Water and Garri” on the streaming platform this year.
“Water and Garri” stars Savage as Aisha, a successful fashion designer who returns to her small Nigerian hometown after spending 10 years building her career in America. As she reconnects with her family, childhood best friends, and past relationships left behind, Aisha must reconcile the lingering trauma and guilt over abandoning her community.
The film, which wrapped up filming last year is co-produced by Savage’s Everything Savage production company, Unbound Studios and JM Films, is directed by renowned Nigerian music video director Meji Alabi. It co-stars actors Mike Afolarin, Andrew Bunting, and Jemima Osunde alongside lead Savage as she steps into her first major dramatic role.
On clinching the high-profile streaming deal, Savage said: “Launching globally on Prime Video fulfills my dream. I can’t wait for longtime fans and newcomers to see this more intimate dramatic side I’ve never fully shown before.”
