The sequel to the 2024 blockbuster Wicked reunites Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as Glinda and Elphaba, returning to Oz for a finale filled with friendship, conflict, and redemption.
“Wicked: For Good” Set to Conclude the Story of Glinda and Elphaba
The musical fantasy film returns to theatres for the conclusion of the two-part saga, exactly a year after Wicked won over hearts at the box office and became a mainstay at award shows. Wicked: For Good will premiere internationally on November 21, 2025.
The timeline of the film is set years after Wicked, with Glinda and Elphaba now occupying very different stations in life. The former, Glinda, is worshiped and hailed as a hero, residing in Emerald City with the Wizard. Dubbed “Glinda the Good Witch,” her life has changed significantly since the first film—when she was almost arrested.
Elphaba, however, has been banished from Oz and is known as the Wicked Witch of the West. Still, she continues her animal rights activism and holds out hope that her old friend Glinda will eventually see the hypocrisy that plagues Oz and its inhabitants.
The film will also feature a royal wedding and the surprise return of Dorothy and her companions: the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion.
Wicked: For Good reunites most of the cast from the first film, including: Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum. The actress playing Dorothy remains a mystery, though fans speculate it could be Alisha Weir.

Jon M. Chu returns as director for the sequel, with Marc Platt and David Stone reprising their roles as producers. Universal Pictures will handle worldwide distribution.
Stephen Schwartz returns to compose the songs for Wicked: For Good, as he did for Wicked. In the trailer, Grande and Erivo can be heard performing the emotional ballad that resonated with theatre fans worldwide and defined Glinda and Elphaba’s bond — “For Good.” The Wicked: For Good soundtrack will be released the same day as the film.
As one of the most anticipated releases of 2025, presale tickets sold out within hours last month on Fandango, making the film the site’s best first-day ticket pre-seller of 2025. It surpassed Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, and Superman. It also became the biggest PG-rated first-day ticket pre-seller of all time.
Awards buzz is already building, with Erivo and Grande reportedly being placed on early Oscar ballots for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. If nominated again in these categories as they were back in January, they would join the rare few to receive two Academy nominations for the same role.
Wicked: For Good is loosely based on the stage play of the same name by Schwartz and the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire.
