The program, which received a record number of applications from across the continent and diaspora, aims to equip producers with essential business skills to thrive in the global film market.
The 14-week online lab, running from mid-September 2024 to January 2025, will cover various business modules, including financial management, fundraising, co-production, business strategy, intellectual property, entertainment law, and PR and distribution. Among the selected participants are filmmakers from Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Kenya, and Tanzania.
Participants include Chidinma Garuba, Chinaka Iwunze, and Nelson Ikeh from Nigeria, Angela Mukajanga from Tanzania, and Phumi Morare from South Africa. The DFMI Business Lab, presented in partnership with DW Akademie and supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, seeks to empower filmmakers to compete in the international market.
The Durban FilmMart Institute, supported by the Durban Film Office and eThekwini Municipality, continues to be a leading platform for developing African filmmaking talent through its year-round programs.
