Filmmaker Adeniyi Joseph has concluded filming his upcoming psychological thriller, “Aja”, in Badagry, a town steeped in history.
The film, which explores the intersection of family traditions, love, obsession, and mental health, is set to introduce a new narrative direction in Nollywood’s expanding genre landscape.
““Aja”” follows the story of a young man struggling with the mental toll of his family’s sinister traditions, including grave desecration.
As he battles psychological abuse, his life takes a turn when he meets Asha, a woman who offers him love and a chance at redemption from his troubled past. The film examines not only the weight of family secrets but the healing power of human connection.
The project brings together an impressive cast, including Yvonne Jegede, Gbohunmi David, Olarotimi Fakunle, and Bimbo Akintola.
Directed by Joseph and written by Titilope Orire, “Aja” aims to push Nollywood’s boundaries by venturing into the psychological thriller genre, an area that has yet to be fully explored within the Nigerian film industry.
Adeniyi Joseph, known for his diverse filmmaking experience, has previously worked on several high-profile productions. His portfolio includes “Ololade”, a six-part web series for TNC ,the 3,000-minute series “Elenini” for Mnet, the 13-episode series “Pepersoup” for Peacock Africa, andAfrica.
As “Aja” moves into post-production, expectations are high for a film that promises to challenge conventional Nollywood storytelling. The movie is expected to offer a unique, suspense-filled experience that combines deep psychological exploration with intense drama.
