Although the curtains have closed on this year’s Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), Nollywood star Ibrahim Chatta is making headlines with his unfiltered reaction to the prestigious event.
The 55-year-old actor, who was nominated in the Best Lead Actor category for his performance in “House of Ga’a,” addressed the subject during an appearance on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast on YouTube. When asked to pray for an AMVCA win, he responded that he’s simply not interested in winning.
“Why should I be praying for something I’m not interested in?.…Whenever I’m interested to go for AMVCA, I will make a film and submit that film so that I can be rated, so that they can check if I deserve the award or not. But I haven’t given them any film to nominate me from.”

Chatta is apparently unfazed by the final outcome of his category. “We have awards, we don’t just post them,” he says.
Regardless, Chatta still had reason to celebrate on AMVCA night. He featured in “Lisabi: The Uprising,” which won Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa), albeit amid online backlash from fans who believed “Seven Doors” was better deserving.
A respected figure in Nollywood, Chatta’s filmography includes an impressive roster of epics such as “Jagun Jagun,” “King of Thieves,” “Olokiki Oru,” “Four Lions,” “Lisabi: The Uprising,” and “House of Ga’a.”
