Nigerian singer Asake has set a new record on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs Chart with 50 total entries, surpassing the previous record of 46 entries held by Grammy Award Winner, Burna Boy.
Asake’s latest album, “Lungu Boy,” released on August 9, 2024, contributed nine new songs to the chart for the week of August 24. These include collaborations with Wizkid and Stormzy.
The album’s promotional single, “Active,” featuring Travis Scott, reached number one after three weeks on the chart. It ended the 45-week run of Tyla’s “Water” at the top spot.
Asake’s success on the chart demonstrates his ability to create hit songs by blending Afrobeats with other genres like fuji, alternative, house, grime, and trap.
The Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs Chart, launched in 2022, tracks the popularity of Afrobeats music in the United States.
