Nigerian Afrobeats singer Asake released a new single, “Only Me” on Jan. 13, 2024, and its release coincided with his 29th birthday.
The upbeat track comes on the heels of his 2022 breakthrough in Africa and global collaborations with artists like Gunna.
“Only Me” follows Asake’s fusion sound of fuji, pop, hip hop and gospel that has earned him an enthusiastic fan base. It kicks off what could be another milestone year for the Nigerian singer-songwriter.
Asake is nominated for a 2023 Grammy Award for Best African Song Performance for his hit track “Amapiano” featuring Olamide. The nod comes a year after his collaboration “Omo Ope” with Olamide helped launch him into Africa’s musical mainstream.
The rising star will find out if he wins his first Grammy at the awards ceremony scheduled for Feb. 5.2024. The nomination caps Asake’s quick ascent since he dedicated himself fully to music since 2022.
