2025 BON Awards: “Beyond Olympic Glory” Earns Best Documentary Nomination

The nomination adds to the film’s growing list of festival and award recognitions since its debut.

Shedrack Salami, a Nigerian documentary filmmaker, has announced that his film Beyond Olympic Glory has secured a Best Documentary nomination at the 2025 Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, scheduled for December 14.

 

The award-winning documentary, which examines boxer Cynthia Ogunsemilore’s doping scandal and her path to rebuilding her reputation, will compete against Nigeria Laughs by Oluwasesan Jigan and Not Addressing This Anymore by Huzzain Bello.

 

Salami shared the news on Instagram, describing the nomination as another milestone in his eight-year journey of pursuing human-interest stories that led him into documentary filmmaking. In his post, he reflected on the challenges he faced while developing his craft and how persistence shaped his career.

He noted that he did not expect his stories about everyday people navigating difficult realities to resonate with global audiences, eventually giving him wider visibility.

 

Beyond Olympic Glory was produced with funding support from StoryMi Academy and the Ambassade de France au Nigéria (France in Nigeria). 

 

The film has continued to attract attention across festivals and award circuits, reinforcing the relevance of its subject matter and its grounded approach to storytelling.
