“Beyond Olympic Glory” Receives Jury Award At Power24 Festival
Following its recent screening at the Power24 International Film Festival, Beyond Olympic Glory, a documentary film by Shedrack Salami, has been honoured with the festival’s Jury Award: Special Sector Stories.
The Jury Award recognition, recently disclosed, by Salami, is the film’s second recognition in South Africa, with HACC’s Best Documentary Award as its first.
Salami described this latest recognition as “extra special,” noting that it is another reminder of the film’s mission to use sport as a vehicle for identity, hope and transformation.

“This recognition means a lot to us, because the Special Sector Stories award celebrates films that highlight narratives often overlooked, stories that go beyond entertainment to reveal resilience, identity and social impact. For our film to be seen in this way is truly humbling,” he wrote.
He further expressed his gratitude to the festival jury for recognising his story and to his team, he commended their invaluable contributions to Beyond Olympic Glory.
With over seven global festival screenings so far, Salami believes his film’s latest recognition is a call to action for filmmakers to amplify important stories in the industry.
