“I Am Anis” was screened at The Jewel by Aeida in Lagos on March 7, 2025 ahead of its official release on Circuits on March 21.

Directed by Biodun Stephen and produced by Tara Ajibulu, the film highlights themes of redemption, societal judgment, and the impact of second chances.

Stephen, reflecting on the film’s inspiration, shared that it was based on a personal story. “This film is dedicated to a family member called Auntie Celine, whose story inspired it,” she said. “I watched it again in September after seeing it countless times, and I called Tara crying. Not just because of the story, but because I was overwhelmed by the honor of making this film.” She described filmmaking as a purpose-driven endeavor rather than just entertainment.

The cast also spoke about their experiences with the project. Shaffy Bello, who plays Anisola Williams, mentioned the emotional weight of the role. “I didn’t see myself—I saw Anisola,” she said. “The story resonates, especially during Women’s Month. We, as women, tend to judge each other. But I challenge everyone to be a Mr. Williams to someone—nudge, don’t judge.”

Tara Ajibulu emphasized the film’s core message. “A few months ago, I made a post about second chances. My life itself is a reel of second chances, of opportunities given to me despite what I’ve been through. I hope this film makes people think and pushes them to be more compassionate.”

The actor who played Mr. Gbenga recalled joining the production at short notice. “I got the call a day before production and read the script on set,” he said. “Some films stay with you beyond the screen—“I Am Anis” is one of them.”

As the screening concluded, Stephen reiterated the film’s central message. “We all have a past, but that past doesn’t have to define our future. Judgment doesn’t change lives—compassion does.”

“I Am Anis” will be available on Circuits from March 21.
