Canon held exclusive screenings in Lagos for Nora Awolowo’s short film Racket Queen, which was shot entirely using the Canon EOS C400 cinema camera. The screenings highlighted the filmmaker’s work and Canon’s support for African storytellers.
Written by Abdul Tijani-Ahmad under Awolowo’s Rixel Studios, Racket Queen tells the story of a young girl who discovers her passion for tennis and pursues her dream with her mother’s support. The film explores challenges and setbacks while highlighting themes of resilience and parental encouragement. The cast includes Pamilerin Ayodeji, Tunbosun Aiyedehin, Kayode Jnr Ojuolape, and Folu Storms.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Awolowo noted that the project marked a professional milestone, reflecting on her early experiences with Canon cameras.
The screenings also coincided with the soft launch of Canon’s EOS C50, an entry-level cinema camera aimed at emerging filmmakers. The event demonstrated the combination of technology and storytelling in supporting filmmaking in Nigeria
