Chavala Yaduma has released first-look images from Sanctuary, an upcoming short film that explores the experiences of women navigating trauma and recovery.
The 20-minute drama, shot in Ibadan and produced by Ayangbade Annabelle, wrapped principal photography in December 2025 and is currently in post-production.

Inspired by widely reported cases of violence against women in Nigeria and beyond, the film centres on two women from different backgrounds whose paths cross during a self-defence training programme. As they form a quiet bond, the story traces how shared experiences can create a sense of support and understanding, even as each character processes her past differently.
The film stars Paul Utomi, Folu Storms and Anita Madu. According to the filmmakers, Sanctuary aims to open up conversations around trauma, recovery and the role of community spaces in supporting women.

For writer and director Yaduma, the project is deeply personal. In a statement, she said the film reflects her interest in telling stories about women who carry difficult experiences in silence and the importance of creating room for those stories to be heard.
Sanctuary is expected to be released later this year, with plans for community screenings, panel discussions and festival submissions.
