Gospel icon and twelve-time Grammy winner Pastor Shirley Caesar is bringing her life story to the screen with “Blessings: My Life – His Glory”, a limited film series currently in development by 5-0 Studios London.
The project, co-written by Caesar and Executive Producer Melanie Greene, aims to capture the challenges, faith, and triumphs of one of gospel music’s most celebrated figures.
Set to explore Caesar’s journey from her early days in Durham, North Carolina, “Blessings” will depict the struggles and resilience of her family, who raised Shirley as the tenth of thirteen children.
Born in 1938, “Baby Shirley” began singing in church at age ten, quickly earning a reputation for her powerful voice across the Carolinas and Virginia. Her story traces her rise in gospel music, her pivotal role in her family’s well-being, and her calling as both a pastor and an international performer.
Over her eight-decade career, Shirley Caesar has produced gospel hits like “No Charge,” “I Remember Mama,” and the viral sensation “Hold My Mule.” Beyond music, her influence spans humanitarian work, authorship, and faith leadership, making her a respected figure in the global gospel community.
Caesar’s legacy will expand through “Blessings”, which will also reflect on her family’s faith and values amid hardships, as well as her journey to becoming a pastor.
Accompanying this series, upcoming projects include a children’s animation titled “Baby Shirley”, storybooks, and more.
No release date has been confirmed for “Blessings”. For additional information, visit 5-0 Studios’ project page.
