Nigerian filmmaker Dika Ofoma has been selected for Berlinale Talents 2026, emerging as the only Nigerian among 200 participants chosen from 3,438 applications across 120 countries.
The programme will take place in Berlin from February 13 to 18 and will bring together filmmakers with diverse creative practices for workshops, talks, networking sessions and public discussions. The 2026 theme is “Creating (and) Confusion — Cinema, Chaos and the Power of Discomfort.”
Other African participants selected for the programme include Charity Kavia from Kenya, Ryan Kruger, Tshi and P from South Africa, Evodie Nguegeli from Cameroon, Yuhi Amuli from Rwanda, and Alice Johnson from Ghana.
Ofoma’s selection adds to a growing body of internationally recognised work. His debut short film A Japa Tale marked his emergence, followed by God’s Wife, which screened at several international festivals.
He is also developing Kachifo at the Locarno Open Doors programme, while Obi Is a Boy premiered at the 2025 S16 Film Festival and later competed at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.
