The Durban FilmMart Institute (DFMI) has announced the call for African animators to submit their projects for the 16th annual Pitch and Finance Forum, set to take place in July 2025.
The DFMI is seeking approximately eight animation projects in development to present to a panel of film professionals, including co-producers, broadcasters, film funds, and distributors, at Africa’s premier film finance and coproduction market.
Magdalene Reddy, Director of the Durban FilmMart Institute, highlighted the growth of the African animation industry in recent years, stating, “Over the past 3 years, the Durban FilmMart has seen an increase in the number and quality of animation applications. The DFMI is proud to contribute to this flourishing industry.”
The forum is open to both series and feature-length animation projects. Eligible projects must have at least one key creative (Producer, Writer, Director) from Africa or the African diaspora.
Successful participants will enter a comprehensive mentorship programme, which includes masterclasses with leading global industry experts in early 2025. A representative from each selected project will also receive travel and accommodation support to attend the live Pitch and Finance Forum in Durban.
The deadline for project submissions is October 27, 2024, and applications can be submitted through the DFMI website.
