Durban Talents Showcases Diverse Slate of 26 African Film Projects

The Durban FilmMart Institute has unveiled the 26 projects and four films critics selected for the 17th edition of Talents Durban, an initiative highlighting emerging African filmmakers to be held July 19-22 alongside the 2024 Durban FilmMart.
The projects span fiction features, documentaries, shorts, series and animation representing 15 African countries from a pool of 499 applicants. The selection serves as a showcase for the diversity of up-and-coming talents from across the continent.
Fiction features selected include Tunisia’s “A Time to Wander,” South Africa’s “Baptism of Silence,” Kenya’s “Pepo Kali,” Ethiopia’s “Revolution (Abyot),” Rwanda’s “Rusaro” and Tanzania’s “The Space Maasai.”
Documentary highlights are Morocco’s “Akal,” Ghana’s “Breaking the Mold,” South Africa’s “The Devil, The Tune and God,” Ivory Coast’s “Kloho (Heritage),” Egypt’s “My Dream to Fly” and Ethiopia’s “Tiny Grain, Big War.”
The shorts lineup consists of Senegal’s “Adame,” Ghana’s “Langalanga,” Egypt’s “Nebula,” Nigeria’s “Stay,” South Africa’s “The Mountain in the Sea (Hoerikwaggo)” and “Trust Me (Ngithembe).”
Series selected are Benin’s “Grève,” Namibia’s “The Mind of Alkebulan,” Senegal’s “Rue 6” and South Africa’s “VigilAunties.”
Rounding out the program are the animated projects “Baby Blue” and “Taste Buds” from South Africa, Kenya’s “Hunt Me Not” and Nigeria’s “Together (Tomodomo).”
Talents Durban, a collaboration with the Berlinale Talents program, provides a platform for the growth of emerging African filmmakers.
