Legendary Nigerian musician Ebenezer Obey has refuted circulating rumours of his death, declaring via social media that he is alive and in good health.
The latest wave of false reports emerged earlier this week, claiming the 83-year-old had died in Lagos. Obey, however, swiftly addressed the misinformation, calling it “fake news” and urging the public to disregard it.
“I am alive and strong,” he stated in a video message. “It is not what Jesus has written about me. I am alive, and I dey kampe.”

The veteran juju singer expressed gratitude to well-wishers who reached out after hearing the rumour, reaffirming his faith that only divine timing determines his fate. “Until Jesus says my time is up, nobody can say otherwise,” he added.
This is not the first time the musician has been a target of death hoaxes. A similar rumour surfaced in 2020, which he also dismissed.
Obey recently marked his 83rd birthday and continues to be celebrated as one of Nigeria’s most influential music figures.
