Ella Chikezie’s short film In Her Shoes emerged as one of the top winners at the All Africa Indie Film Festival (AAIFF) 2025, held on November 22 in Lagos in partnership with the Brixton Film Festival.

The festival, created to promote African indie filmmaking across genres such as documentary, drama, animation, comedy, and crime, featured screenings, musical performances, and a lively marketplace atmosphere.

In Her Shoes took home three awards, including Best Director for Chikezie and Best Short Film. Darasimi Nnadi was also honored for her portrayal of Halima, a 12-year-old autistic girl navigating life in a rural, low-income Hausa community in Idi-Araba, Lagos. Her performance drew praise for its emotional depth and authenticity. The film has screened at several international festivals, including the Power 24 International Film Festival, and continues to build global visibility.

Other major winners at the event included A Day Called Everyday by Orobosa Ikponmwen, who directed and co-wrote the project, and Terms and Conditions by Adio Solanke, which earned Best Screenplay.

Alongside the awards, AAIFF hosted filmmaking masterclasses led by industry professionals, further reinforcing its commitment to talent development and the growth of African indie cinema.
