The Fame Short Film Festival has officially opened submissions for its 2026 edition, inviting filmmakers to share short films that explore African stories, culture, and identity.
In a recent Instagram post, festival organisers highlighted The Incredible, Sensational of Seyi Ajayi’s Fiancee by Abbesi Akhamie, which won Best Film, Best Production Design, and Best Costume at last year’s festival.
Submissions for this year’s edition, set to take place in Cape Town, South Africa, close on May 22. Organisers encouraged entries that reflect Africa’s diverse heritage, historical events, modern life, identity, and socio-political issues.
The festival has previously recognised notable short films including Ari Kuger’s King George, Miselwa Ngamlana’s Blind Spots, Bassma Farah Nancy’s V’s Secret, Cleveland Hopp’s Onthou Vi Fredo, and Isaac Kannigan’s Pal for their storytelling, production design, and cultural impact.
This year’s edition, in partnership with Fame Week Africa, is scheduled for October 28 to 30, 2026. Organisers said they hope to continue highlighting thought-provoking stories that celebrate Africa’s cultural diversity.
