Renowned Nigerian writer and filmmaker Femi Odugbemi has received an Award of Recognition for his 2016 film Gidi Blues.
The honor was presented by the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS), the Heinrich Böll Stiftung Abuja, and the Lagos Film Colloquium, acknowledging the filmmaker’s contribution to African cinema.

Co-written by Taiwo Egunjobi and Femi Kayode, Gidi Blues tells the story of a wealthy Lagos playboy whose life takes an unexpected turn when he falls in love with a woman who changes his perspective. The film stars Gideon Okeke, Lepacious Bose, Hauwa Allahbura, and Nancy Isime.
Odugbemi described the film as a “catalyst for conversations” on African culture, urban identity, and heritage. He also expressed gratitude to those who continue to recognize the power of storytelling in shaping culture and fostering understanding.

The recognition adds to Odugbemi’s track record as one of Nollywood’s most respected voices, committed to telling authentic African stories that resonate globally.
