Directed by Yemi Morafa, the female-led crime thriller joins Nigeria’s top earners, displacing Wunmi Toriola’s Queen Lateefah.
“Gingerrr” Breaks Into Top 10 Highest-Grossing Nigerian Films
Gingerrr has officially joined the ranks of Nigeria’s highest-grossing films, displacing Queen Lateefah with ₦378.6 million and securing a spot alongside blockbusters like Everybody Loves Jenifa, A Tribe Called Judah, The Wedding Party, and Chief Daddy.
The film marks the first cinema group project produced by actresses Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori (popularly known as KieKie), Wunmi Toriola, Bisola Aiyeola, and Bolaji Ogunmola. Since its release on September 26, the film has maintained the number one position at the box office every weekend for four consecutive weeks.
This milestone pushes Wunmi Toriola’s Queen Lateefah to number 11 on the all-time list, while Ayo Makun’s The Waiter sits at 12. With its UK theatrical run just beginning and additional days remaining in Nigerian cinemas, Gingerrr could climb even higher in the rankings demonstrating the commercial potential of collaborative, women-led productions.
Directed by Yemi Morafa, Gingerrr follows four women who mastermind a daring heist that spirals into chaos, secrets, and unexpected twists. The film also features Timini Egbuson, Lateef Adedimeji, Shaffy Bello, Blossom Chukwujekwu, and others.
