“House of Ga’a,” the Nigerian historical drama directed by Bolanle Austen Peters, continues to captivate global audiences on Netflix, securing the 8th position on the streaming platform’s Global Top 10 Chart for Non-English Films.
Since its release, the film has garnered over three million watch hours and 1.6 million views, according to Netflix’s viewership data. In its second week, the biopic maintained its number one spot on Nigeria’s Top 10 Chart while slightly dropping from seventh to eighth position globally.
Set in the 18th century Oyo Empire, “House of Ga’a” portrays the ruthless ascent of Ga’a, a power-hungry political figure who betrays a series of kings in his relentless pursuit of power. The film, co-produced with Joseph Umoibom and written by Tunde Babalola, has earned praise for its suspenseful plot and engaging dialogue that appeals to both Yoruba and non-Yoruba speakers.
The star-studded cast includes notable Nollywood actors such as Femi Branch, Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham, and Seun Akindele, among others. Despite its roots in Yoruba tradition, the film’s themes and storytelling have resonated with audiences beyond cultural boundaries.
“House of Ga’a” marks another success for Nigeria’s film industry on the global streaming stage.
