The Yoruba epic outpaced Richard Mofe-Damijo’s “Revelations” and international releases to claim the top spot on its opening weekend.
Ibrahim Yekini’s Yoruba epic, Abanisete: The Ancestor, has topped the Nigerian box office with a debut of ₦30.9 million in just three days.
The film, which premiered on August 15, outperformed new and existing releases, continuing the trend of strong audience demand for indigenous titles.
According to box office figures shared on August 18, Abanisete: The Ancestor earned nearly double the debut revenue of Richard Mofe-Damijo’s Revelations (₦8.5 million).
American filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto’s action thriller Nobody 2 earned ₦15.2 million, accounting for 50% of Yekini’s film earnings. Meanwhile, Ayan Mukherji’s Indian action thriller War 2 secured ₦11.2 million, or 37% of the Yoruba title’s gross.

With a dominant opening, projections suggest Abanisete: The Ancestor could achieve blockbuster status, joining the ranks of Yekini’s past box office successes.
