The Iyanu franchise is set to expand with an animated feature, Iyanu: The Age of Wonders, premiering on Showmax on Friday, September 26, 2025.

The release comes shortly after its U.S. debut on Cartoon Network and Max.

Produced by Lion Forge Entertainment and helmed by creator and showrunner Roye Okupe, the feature serves as a prequel, taking viewers 500 years before the events of the series.

Set in Yorubaland during a golden age of magic, the story follows young warriors Dara and Ishe as they battle to stop Meje — the embodiment of the seven deadly sins — from ushering in an era of darkness.

The all-African voice cast includes Shaffy Bello, Babajide Oyekunle, Ike Ononye, Sisan Victor-Woko, Serah Johnson, Okey Jude, Samuel Kugbiyi, and Adesua Etomi-Wellington. The screenplay was co-written by Okupe and Brandon Easton, the series’ story editor.

“The response to Season 1 was incredible — it became the most-watched kids’ series on Showmax across Africa,” said Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of General Entertainment Channels at MultiChoice Group. “With The Age of Wonders, we’re excited to continue sharing bold African stories with audiences everywhere.”

Since its U.S. launch in April, Iyanu has grown into a global hit, ranking as the most-watched kids’ series on Cartoon Network and among the top 10 family shows on Max.

Season 1 is available for streaming on Showmax, while Season 2 is expected to premiere in 2026.
