After a year-long hiatus, acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker Jade Osiberu is set to make her directorial comeback with “Christmas in Lagos,” a romantic comedy slated for release on Prime Video this December.
The announcement, made on August 28, 2024, marks a significant departure from Osiberu’s previous works, which include crime thrillers “Gangs of Lagos” and “Brotherhood.”
“We made the most beautiful, heartwarming Christmas film ever,” Osiberu said in a statement, addressing her absence from the industry. “If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know that when I’m quiet, it means I’m cooking, and food is done.”
The film boasts a diverse cast, blending veteran actors like Richard Mofe Damijo and Shaffy Bello with Afrobeats stars including Adekunle Gold and Ayra Starr.
Set against Lagos’ “Detty December” festivities, the story follows four friends navigating love and relationships during the holiday season.
Osiberu reassured fans of her action-packed films, teasing two upcoming projects. “Very soon I’m going to share the tea on two action films that we are developing,” she said.
“Christmas in Lagos” represents a bold move for Osiberu, potentially expanding her directorial range and audience appeal.
As anticipation builds, industry watchers are keen to see how Osiberu’s foray into romantic comedy will be received by both critics and audiences.
