Nigerian-based Ghanaian actress and filmmaker Juliet Ibrahim has been appointed to the advisory boards of the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF) and the Brampton International Nollywood Film Festival (BINFF), two Canada-based festivals dedicated to celebrating African cinema on a global stage.

Both festivals, founded by Nigerian creatives, aim to promote Nollywood and African filmmaking in the diaspora. TINFF has also been officially approved by Telefilm Canada and the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television as a Canadian Screen Awards-qualifying festival—a recognition that positions it as a significant platform for global exposure.

Reacting to the news, Ibrahim described the appointment as a deeply personal milestone that aligns with her ongoing advocacy for African cinema and women’s representation in the industry.

“I am honoured to officially join the advisory boards of the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF) and the Brampton International Nollywood Film Festival (BINFF),” she said. “This means more to me than just my roles as an actress or director—it’s about empowering African storytellers and connecting them with international opportunities.”

The actress added that she hopes to use the platform to build bridges between African filmmakers and global partners, particularly through co-productions supported by Canada’s Telefilm programme.

Ibrahim also noted that she would continue to advocate for gender representation through her role as President of Women in Film Ghana. “I am especially proud to bring my voice as President of Women in Film Ghana, helping to uplift and spotlight the incredible women working behind and in front of the camera.”

Her latest film, “Healing the Inner Child,” was recently shortlisted for Best Feature Film at the 2025 Kaduna International Film Festival (KADIFF), further underlining her growing influence both within and beyond the continent.

With this new role, Ibrahim joins a select group of creatives influencing the direction of international festivals that center African stories, at a time when global recognition of Nollywood continues to expand.
