“KPop Demon Hunters” Becomes Netflix’s Most-Watched Original Animated Film of All Time
Sony Pictures Animation has announced that the animated fantasy film is now the most-watched original animated film in Netflix history, racking up over 132.4 million views to date.
Originally released on June 20, 2025, the film has shown consistent growth in streaming numbers. From its initial 9.2 million views during its first full week (June 15–22, 2025), it has surged to 26.3 million views in its sixth week (July 21–27, 2025), currently placing it at No. 2 on Netflix’s Top 10 English-language films chart. Only Adam Sandler’s sequel “Happy Gilmore 2” stands in the way of the top spot.
Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the film’s meteoric rise is closely tied to its chart-topping soundtrack, which has become a cultural moment in its own right. Thanks to social media buzz, viral trends, and an enthusiastic push from real-life K-pop stars and fans, the music has amplified the film’s appeal. Industry observers already speculate it could take the title of Soundtrack of Summer 2025.
Produced by Sony Music, the soundtrack debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 before climbing to No. 2. For the week of August 2, 2025, it currently sits at No. 3, but insiders predict a rebound following the film’s record-breaking streaming milestone.
Meanwhile, the film’s fictional K-pop group Huntrix (“Huntrix girls to the world”) has become a breakout force of its own. Voiced by Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami—who play Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, respectively—the group has shattered records once held by real-life acts like BTS, SEVENTEEN, and BLACKPINK. Their lead single “Golden” recently topped the Billboard Streaming Songs chart, making them the first all-female group to do so. It also holds the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.
“KPop Demon Hunters” tells the story of a beloved K-pop girl group who secretly double as demon hunters. Using the power of their voices, they must form the legendary Golden Honmoon and seal away an endless demonic invasion once and for all.
