The Lagos Fringe Festival, organized by Pawstudios Africa, is set to kick off its seventh edition from November 19 to 24 at Freedom Park, Lagos.

Known for its multidisciplinary approach, the festival will once again spotlight diverse artistic expressions across film, theatre, music, dance, and visual arts.

This year’s event features an impressive lineup of 28 films from Nigeria, Kenya, and diaspora filmmakers in Canada and the United States. These selections include submissions from Film Lab Africa’s shorts and micro-shorts category. Over the course of five days, these films will be screened at Freedom Park, Lagos.

Among the films selected are “I Don’t Want To Be Born”, “Abiku (The Yoruba Myth)”, “Ngori Kuruka”, “Blurred Lines”, and “Elakeche (Mysteries of the World)”.

Others include “1992”, “Oga Mike”, “Anthology of Emotions: Pilot”, and “Swimming in a Sea of Trauma”. This eclectic mix promises to showcase compelling narratives and explore diverse themes.

In addition to its film screenings, the festival will host 150 performances and exhibitions across 14 venues. These include interactive workshops, music concerts, dance shows, and visual art displays, ensuring a rich cultural experience for attendees.

A significant highlight of this year’s program is the Festival Gathering, a hybrid initiative in partnership with the British Council. This segment is designed to equip African arts and culture leaders with essential skills in sustainability, funding, and festival programming. The initiative also includes the Festival Management Residency, which began virtually in September and engaged over 50 festival managers from Africa and Europe.

Other planned activities include a Y2K Party, a Rave/DJ Battle, Fringe After Dark, and a workshop titled “Creative Hustle: The Filmmaker and Guide to Global Audiences”. Attendees will also have opportunities to win cash prizes, festival awards, and exclusive mentorships.

Inspired by the iconic Edinburgh Fringe, Lagos Fringe continues to serve as a platform for artistic growth and innovation.
